What's Normal?

Update for April 7, 2014: Jared had a bunch of blood tests today and all were very good! The doctor said most leukemia patients have to get a blood transfusion long before Jared did. Since the blood transfusion last Monday, Jared feels much better. His nosebleeds have stopped since the transfusion, which confused the doctors. His platelet and white blood cell count have been normal, so they don’t understand why he had nosebleeds, and now they don’t understand why the transfusion has stopped them. We don’t know why, and we don’t care! Jared is amazing and we’re very happy they have stopped. He says it feels so nice to not have blood going down the back of his throat.

Jared says he feels almost normal. This in itself is a very interesting statement to me, because I don’t think Jared has ever been normal. I use to say I felt like I was raising baby superman. My guess is Jared’s normal is pretty good! Now we are going back to what we did a month ago. Tomorrow we start this chemo phase over. Which means on Wednesday Jared starts doing his own chemo for two weeks, three days a week.

To me it is unbelievable how scientists and doctors came up with such a complicated chemo program! I will not question it, only at times it is a bit confusing. The doctor said "we could give you a calendar, but it can change with every test!" They had decided against administering one of the extremely affective chemo’s because of the blood clots. Now that the blood clot is being controlled with blood thinners, Jared decided to go back on the other chemo. Which means many more months of the blood thinner belly shots. But the upside is, this chemo increases his recovery rate so much more. Jared once again is taking a leap of faith to give himself every chance possible to recover completely. Please remember when you pray for Jared, pray for recovery of Jared’s nerve damage in his face. We love you all! You give us the strength we need to go forward in faith!
